Of course - Adam Malysz is retiring. I knew it ever happens, I expected that just this year, but when I heard it from the lips of the person concerned, I felt the emptiness and sadness. Perhaps unnecessary, but still. So today will probably sentimental and perhaps a bit pathetic, but whatever. Sport is based on the most basic emotions, and yet close to sentimentality. Even more difficult to avoid when leaving a man-a legend.
With hand on heart I can honestly say that his career Mr Adam I followed from the very beginning, when as yet unknown to the public jumper stood on the podium for the first time somewhere in the mid-90s, and when he won the first contest of his life in Oslo (so I was not a victim małyszomanii). There he began his march to the glory of 17 March 1996 and there she completed her incredible journey almost equal to 15 years later. Today, as a nation we are already (it's just a matter of Adam), more accustomed to winning and prepared for possible further success (in any discipline), which is why I dare to say that Adam was the first and only athlete who has contributed to a national mania. There will be new divers, who will be rooting for a group of enthusiasts, but nobody will take the place of Mr Adam - will never be the same. Each jumper will again have to confront the true legend, and it will be very difficult to compare.
Although overt sadness, how I feel (and probably not only me) from yesterday, I'm also happy that Mr. Adam is able to go, being on top, just after winning a bronze medal at the world championships. Medal, which as he said, lacked to his collection. There he won the coveted Olympic gold? It does not matter. He did so much, that others will be hard to match him, and the lack of that gold did not make it will be seen as a sportsman unfulfilled. For me, on the contrary (which had once written after the Olympic Games in Vancouver), this empty space on the shelf above the fireplace makes Mr. Adam is in my eyes even better athlete. On the one hand, it is missing the gold proves to us that Adam is a man of flesh and blood, imperfect, not the razor to win. On the other hand symbolizes the dreams and goals that you have as little Adam who could systematically pursued and for which so desperately sought.
